  • 19 South West towns eligible for Showerhead Swap and/or Waterwise Letters and/or Weather-based Irrigation Controller Rebates
  • All South West Water Corporation scheme water customers eligible for Rainwater Tank Rebate and Dual Flush Toilet Rebate
  • Water Corporation’s Waterwise Towns Program to reach record 56 regional towns
  • Supports regional households to save water and lower bills
  • Program focuses on towns reliant on independent surface and groundwater sources

Waterwise offers are now available to eligible residents in 19 South West towns, helping save precious drinking water in the lead up to another hot, dry summer.

Water Corporation’s Waterwise Towns Program has this year expanded to a record 56 regional communities where independent surface and groundwater sources are most at risk of the impacts of climate change.

Water Minister Simone McGurk announced the tailored water efficiency measures today, as part of National Water Week, which runs until 27 October.

In 2023-24, participating South West communities saved around 34 million litres of water through a range of residential and non-residential water efficiency activities.

Almost 3,000 households in Bridgetown, Donnybrook and Manjimup received waterwise comparative use letters, 122 plumbing and irrigation services were delivered, and 132 households swapped their old showerheads for new water efficient ones.

This year, Water Corporation customers in each eligible South West community can exchange two old showerheads for waterwise alternatives under a free Showerhead Swap Program.

In addition, households in all participating towns can access a rebate for the purchase of a new rainwater tank, or to plumb in or replace an existing tank.

A $300 rebate for a weather-based irrigation controller is available to limited customers in Dunsborough and Yallingup. Residents in Dalyellup, Augusta and Dunsborough will also receive waterwise comparative use letters providing key insights on their household water use.

For the first time, all Water Corporation scheme water customers in the South West - including those in communities not participating in the Waterwise Towns Program - will also be eligible for rebates towards the purchase of:

a new rainwater tank, or to plumb in or replace an existing tank; and
to replace a single flush toilet with a waterwise dual flush toilet.

This offer, available from mid-November, is in response to heightened demand on water supplies following an extended hot, dry summer earlier this year.

Since 2013, the Waterwise Towns Program has saved 1.9 billion litres of drinking water State-wide, contributing to the long-term sustainability of Western Australia’s most vital resource.

Weather-based Irrigation Controller Rebates are a limited offer and only available for purchases made between 1 October 2024 and 31 May 2025 until allocations are exhausted. Showerhead Swap is available until 31 May 2025, while stocks last.

Comments attributed to Water Minister Simone McGurk:

“Water Corporation’s Waterwise Towns Program not only helps residents save on their water bills, but also plays a crucial role in preserving water resources in parts of regional WA where drinking water sources are most constrained.

“We know climate change presents real challenges, particularly on traditional ground and surface water sources, and programs like this are key to helping us adapt and build resilience in our water schemes.

“In its 11th year, the program has saved an impressive 1.9 billion litres of water or around 856 Olympic-sized swimming pools. I encourage communities in this year’s program to take advantage of the available offers and continue to build on these savings.”

Comments attributed to Warren-Blackwood MLA Jane Kelsbie:

“Small actions can make a big difference when it comes to protecting our drinking water, and with a drying climate - especially in the South West - it's important we all do what we can to play our part in helping save our precious water resources.

“I encourage local residents to take up these offers.”
