Regional Rainwater Tank Rebate

A plumbed in rainwater tank can save up to 20% of your in-house water use each year, helping you save money on your water bills and to live more sustainably.  

That’s why we’re offering a rebate on the cost of purchasing, replacing, or plumbing in an existing rainwater tank to your toilet and/or washing machine. 

According to Tankulator, customers who took advantage of our Rainwater Tank Rebate offer last year will now save an average of 78,000 litres of water each year! To find out how much you could save from a rainwater tank, visit the Tankulator website. You will need your postcode, the surface area and material type of your property’s roof, and your daily water use (which you can find on your latest water bill).

The Rainwater Tank Rebate is available to eligible customers in the South West and Great Southern until Saturday 31 May 2025.

Rebate eligibility

Scheme water customers in the following locations are currently eligible for this waterwise offer:
  • Great Southern: Albany, Bremer Bay, Cranbrook, Denmark, Esperance, Grass Patch, Hopetoun, Kendenup, Mount Barker, Munglinup, Narrikup, Porongurup, Ravensthorpe, Rocky Gully, Salmon Gums, Walpole and Wellstead.
  • South West: Augusta, Balingup, Boyup Brook, Bridgetown, Dalyellup, Deanmill, Donnybrook, Dunsborough, Greenbushes, Hester, Kirup, Manjimup, Mullalyup, Nannup, Northcliffe, Pemberton, Peppermint Grove Beach, Quinninup and Yallingup.
If you're eligible, you can now apply for one of the following rebates:
  • New rainwater tank and plumbing - up to a maximum of $1,000 for a new rainwater tank with a capacity of 2,000L or more that is plumbed.
    • OR
  • Plumbing in an existing rainwater tank - up to a maximum of $500 for the rainwater tank with a capacity of 2,000L or more.
    • OR
  • Replacing an existing plumbed in rainwater tank - up to a maximum of $500 for the rainwater tank with a capacity of 2,000L or more.

How to apply for the Rainwater Tank Rebate

  1. Download and complete our application form. Please read our terms and conditions before starting your application. 
  2. Ask your licensed plumber who is completing the work to fill out and sign the declaration at the end of the form.
  3. Submit your application form in an email waterwise.towns@watercorporation.com.au, along with copies of the following documents: 
  • the itemised receipt for the plumbing work completed
  • the tax invoice for the purchase of your new rainwater tank (if applicable).

Frequently asked questions

The Rainwater Tank Rebate is offered to customers in selected towns to save water by reducing demand on scheme water. To be eligible, you must:  

  • Be a Water Corporation scheme water customer in one of the eligible towns  
  • Be the owner of the property where the rainwater tank has been installed  
  • Install a tank with a capacity of 2,000L or more  
  • Meet all relevant standards and government requirements  
  • Have the tank plumbed into your toilet and/or washing machine by a licensed plumber  
  • Provide receipts for the purchase of the tank and its installation by a licensed plumber 

Unfortunately, no. To receive a rebate, you must be connected to Water Corporation scheme water and provide a Water Corporation account number.

Unfortunately, no, the owner of the property must apply. Please contact the owner of the property regarding the offer.

A rebate of up to $1,000 or the cost of the tank and plumbing (whichever is less) is available for a new rainwater tank with a capacity of 2,000L or more.   

Please note that to be eligible for the rebate for a new tank, the tank needs to be purchased and plumbed in within the offer period. If your rainwater tank was purchased prior to the offer commencement date for your town, you will be eligible for a $500 rebate for plumbing in an existing rainwater tank.

You will need to engage a licensed plumber to plumb in your tank. A rebate of up to $500 or the cost of the plumbing work (whichever is the less) is available for an existing tank with a capacity of 2,000L or more (e.g. if the plumbing work costs $200, you will receive the equivalent amount). 

A rebate of up to $500 or the cost of the rainwater tank (whichever is the less) for the replacement of an existing plumbed in rainwater tank with a new rainwater tank with a capacity of 2,000L or more. (e.g., If the tank costs $200, you will receive the equivalent amount). 

The rebate will be paid into your nominated bank account. Please allow four weeks for the application to be processed.

Applications may take up to four weeks to be processed. If your application is approved, you will be notified via email that your application was successful. You should receive your rebate within 10 business days from receiving the confirmation email. 

It is up to the customer to ensure that they meet the Terms and Conditions of the offer. Some common reasons for applications to be rejected include: 

  • The application does not include invoices for the purchase and installation of the rainwater tank, or the invoices provided are incorrect  
  • The application is missing information  
  • The application is for a non-residential property  
  • The application is for a property that is not connected to Water Corporation scheme water  
  • The application is for a property not located in one of the eligible towns listed on our website  
  • The application is submitted outside of the rebate period  

The Rainwater Tank Rebate is available from 1 October 2024 to 31 May 2025 to eligible towns. Rebates will cease on 31 May 2025 or when the program funds have been expended. For any enquiries, please contact waterwise.towns@watercorporation.com.au.

Yes. Plumbing regulations mean that a licensed plumber is required to connect a rainwater tank to plumbing fixtures. More information about these regulation changes can be found on the Department of Energy Mines, Industry Regulation and Safety website.

We understand that regional towns often experience delays with deliveries or difficulties getting contractors. If you are concerned that your tank will not be delivered and installed before the rebate offer closes on 31 May 2025, please email waterwise.towns@watercorporation.com.au.
